Multigenerational & Middle School Department
Bresee Academy for Middle School (BAM)
As an official Beyond-the-Bell partner of Virgil Middle School, BAM provides after-school academic support, educational enrichment, and leadership opportunities for over 140 LAUSD students throughout the school year. All students participate in homework help and engage in elective workshops, including visual arts, STEM, cooking, and general sports.
- Middle School Summer Activities
Summer activities provide middle school students the opportunity to engage in hands-on and interactive activities. Activities might include educational outdoor experiences, field trips, and summer programs that support academic and socioemotional learning.
Intergenerational Program
The goal of the Intergenerational program is to bridge the gap between generations and increase the overall quality of life of older adults. Building relationships with youth give older adults a greater sense of purpose and connect them to society in ways that make them feel valued, accepted, and respected. To reduce social isolation, older adults are invited to participate in activities that include technology training, financial literacy, health and wellness, and opportunities to become reading mentors to the middle school youth.
Parent Engagement
Parent involvement positively impacts student success. Through participation in parent workshops and family activities, the parent engagement component seeks to educate parents in education advocacy, health and wellness, communication, foster community, and connect families to resources.
