3rd Annual Youth Film Festival On Social Justice:
Stories of urban housing in the big city.

Los Angeles, CA March 1st, 2007.  The Bresee Foundation Community Center, Camino Nuevo Charter School, and Project AIM are pleased to announce the 3rd Annual Youth Film Festival on Social Justice to be held May 22nd, from 7-9 at Camino Nuevo High School located at 3500 West Temple Street in Los Angeles 90004.

This year’s festival entitled: “Home Sweet Home…Stories of Urban Housing in the Big City” is inviting youth ages 14-19 to make and submit films to the festival that examine the issue of housing through their eyes.  Topics may include but are not limited to homelessness, overcrowding, slumlords, gentrification, runaways, foster care system, your second home.  Participating schools and non-profits making films currently include Belmont Mulitmedia Academy, Miguel Contreras Learning Complex, LA High, Camino Nuevo Charter Academy, West Adams Prep, Lou Danztler Prep, Red Shield, A Place Called Home, Covenant House, HeArt Project, Echo Park Film Center, Youth Speak Collective, Lanterman Regional Center, My Friend's Place, Plaza De La Raza, Bresee Youth Center, and Hollywood Community Housing Corporation.

Based on their extensive knowledge of housing issues and film the distinguished panel of festival judges will select winners who deliver the most powerful and influential films.  Judge include: Eric Garcetti (LA City Council President), Michael Eisner (The Tornante Company), Breck Eisner (Film Director), Helmi Hisserich (LA Deputy Mayor, Housing & Economic Development), Robert Mandel (Film Director, Dean AFI),  Nancy Spears (Warner Premier),  Lisa Marr (Director, Echo Park Film Center), Jango Sircus (Screenwriter), Malik Ducard (VP, Digital Distribution Paramount), Bill Harris (Executive Director, Hollywood Community Housing Corporation), Carrie Sherwood (Broadcast Response), Jeffrey Blitz (Film Director), Cristi Catlin (HBO, Community Affairs).  2008 Sponsors include Broadcast Response, HBO, and Ares Management.

Films must be submitted by April 25, 2008.  Winners will be announced and screened at the Festival on May 22, 2008 at Camino Nuevo High School, with mini dv camcorders awarded to the top fifteen budding filmmakers.
